The Human Face of Microfinance
WISE ACT, INC.'s research defines how micro-finance touched women's lives. Fifty women shared their stories, struggles and successes to us in this study. Our research partners include micro-finance institutions namely KUMARE, LICMADECO, LLDF, TSPI-BALAYAN and Women's Rural Bank (WRB). The focus of the study revolves around four topics: a.) Women who benefited from micro-finance programs; b.) Micro-finance programs and how they work; c.) How does micro-finance touch women's lives and d.) What are the contributory factors and barriers in maximizing benefits of micro-finance for women?

CROSSING THE THRESHOLD - A Resource Book on Women and Micro-Finance
"In June 1999, we at the Women's Institute for Sustainable Economic Action or WISE ACT called for a national workshop-conference aiming to promote gender responsive micro-financing programs. The success of this all women activity became our building block. Inspired by initiatives of institutions such as cooperatives, loans, savings and self help groups and by the stories they told from years of experience, we were convinced that it was time for a resource book on gender-responsive micro-financing programs" - Jocelyn F. Cajiuat, Executive Director The resource book contains the social setting of women in micro-finance. It includes for tools namely Gender and Development Framework for Gender Responsive Micro-Finance, Women's Equality and Empowerment Framework, Checklist for Gender Issues in the Project cycle and Development of Performance Standard Indicators. This book challenges Micro-Finance Institutions and Practitioners to make their business more humane and gender responsive. Some NGOs, G.O.s and International organizations are listed also.
